  2. Congrats to all and congrats sa akin :-) this is my first time to run 21K and I’m very proud to my self. Kitakitz uli sa LEG2 :-)

  3. ok ang water station at maraming saging may konteng problema lang … nagkaubusan ng tubig sa ibang water station….ok naman ang security at mga portalet along buendia.. he he he….maganda ang suporta ng UNILAB sa mga runners at ni Coach RIO…good for you sir…hope na lalong gumanda pa ang Rununited sa leg 2 at wala na sanang aberya…t y

  4. Michael,

Feedback requires both positive and negative criticism.

My comment is a call to arms for the organizer to do some evaluation on whether or not their event is meeting their objective. I am but one of the people who are not 100% satisfied.

And yes I expect 100% satisfaction. I am a customer (albeit a vocal one) and, given the high registration fee, feel that it is my right to demand 100% satisfaction. If one is to be considered world-class, then one should expect and deliver no less.

  5. @Michael

  6. great run and great route.

  7. kya pla di na umakbay & halos di makangiti si Coach nun nagpapicture kmi, badtrip na pla..But after noticing that we waited patiently after his long conversation with the Unilab big boss, he stopped walking (maybe he wanted to meet with his staff) & granted us photo opts. Thank you Coach! ;-)

  8. Well organized run. Excellent route overall, abundant hydration and very nice medal. My 2 sons (ages 15 and 19) who joined me in the 21k were very happy especially with the medal. We are looking forward for the leg 2.

  9. Adjustment of gun start from 5am to 4:30 was a very good idea, natapos namin ng di pa mainit. Hope Runrio will consider 4:00 pm gunstart for leg 2.

  10. COngrats sa lahat ng tumakbo..hindi ko man nasaksihan,..pero for sure masaya kayo..

Nasa 102BDM kasi ako…super duper enjoy at saya makatulong sa mga runners :)

  11. It was a pleasant 21K run for me, though admittedly, quite irritated that I wasn’t able to have my finisher’s shirt during the day. I guess you can’t blame us, we were tired after then run and was expecting to claim the goodies after finishing the run. A good explanation from the events people would have sufficed, we would have understood right there and then. It took a brouhaha at the side of the stage for us people to have a decent explanation… Anyways, over-all, it was an exhilarating race which almost everybody enjoyed!!! GO Go Go RIO!!!!

  12. @Rororunner: walang nagtatanong kung nasaan ka kaya huwag kang magyabang dito! who cares if you are a BDM runner or not?

  13. Pansin ko lang when compared to ALL PREVIOUS RUN UNITED EVENTS…

    1. No Gun sa gunstart?
    2. No fireworks?
    3. No lights sa Start line?
    4. No lights sa Buendia Flyover
    5. Kaunti ng Powerade unlike before
    6. Halos walang marshalls, kung may marshalls man, it’s obvious na parang baguhan sila kasi they weren’t doing what all the other marshalls were doing before
    7. Di kinukuha yung stub sa bib sa Finisher’s Kit booths
    8. Ang nipis ng medal kahit malapad
    9. Ang mahal ng bayad sobra

I’m not sure why a lot of people are happy, good for you guys (I’m assuming that first time niyo?), but it saddens me that the standard for holding up running events are at an all-time low even if the price just keeps getting higher. Rumor has it that the price is the way it is because Rio is getting married? Congrats to him, but if it’s true, sana naman not in the expense of runners.

Yeah I know that it’s our choice to join events like this, but still, it’s no excuse to lure people in months before only to show your true colors now and in the future.

I’m hoping and praying that the next set of races will be better AGAIN…

  14. Hey Coach Rio, congratulations for mounting another successful event. I salute you. I understand how difficult it is to conduct a race of this magnitude, and for sure there would be minor glitches that will occur. The 21 km race traversed four cities, Taguig, Makati, Manila and Pasay, I hope the runners would appreciate how difficult it is to secure permission as well as the coordination nightmare that such route entails. Initially, I was one of those who complained about the timing issues in your earlier races, but I am not converted, a firm believer, I was able to witness how you have put your best in each and every race and how it transformed to what it is now. RunRio is truly a gold standard of Philippine races, hands down. For those runners who are complaining about the route, please remember that running is not about your convenience, it is about challenging yourself, if you would shy away from the litllest discomfort, then you would better off sleeping in your bed, while you leave the running to the rest of us.

  15. I got a new pr as well. I’ve improved my 21K by 8 mins. Although not as fast as the others, this is still a personal achievement for me. This is one of the best run I had. But i do feel for those who were not able to get a shirt or freebies. Hope this could be resolve soon.

  18. this was my first 21k and i enjoyed it very much…it’s also my first time to join the trilogy…The medal looks awesome and i can’t get over from it…Thanks for this event…this is a memorable event for me because this is my first ever half marathon having a personal best time of 2 hours and 37 minutes….looking forward to RU2….

  19. Here’s a message from Coach Rio, posted in their Facebook wall:

Greetings everyone! As a president and owner of Runrio I would like to apologize for what happened. I take full responsibility of everything. Our sponsors are not responsible for the short comings. I would like to thank them especially Unilab and Powerade for the support and understanding. I also want to say thank you and commend our staff who dedicated their time for the event. I just came from mass this afternoon and I prayed for the runners who did not get their finisher’s kit/shirt and asked for forgiveness and understanding. I prayed for the runners who took advantage of the situation. Runners who are dishonest and greedy. Non runners who stole our stokcs in the middle of the event. I prayed for non registered runners/bandi who got water, Powerade, banana, sponge and got mad at me when I asked them to run at the sidewalk and I kindly asked them not to get the supplies along the route. I also prayed and ask for forgiveness for my staff manning at the finishers kits who made mistakes. I forgave all of them and I personally apologize on behalf of these people for the runners who got affected during the event. I really want to have a perfect race, unfortunately I am not perfect and there are some instances I cannot control. I hope you will give me a chance to redeem myself. I will guarantee that runners who weren’t able to get their kits will receive them. I really appreciate all the feedbacks and I will take into consideration all your comments. The success of the event is because of your continuous patronage of our event. Thank you so much. The good thing about this, is we are continuously learning and there is room for improvement.

  20. overall, the run was indeed nice. however, i was again disappointed since we were not able to have our shirts. again because, the last time we ran for nike, the finisher’s kit was not available for distribution and so the same thing happened here in run united 1. bit pissed off. we hope you for a positive response from RUNRIO. thank you.

  21. @Michael: Runmanila was talking about 10k runs I believe, and matagal nang masama ang image ng Singapore races, so it’s not really a big surprise na mas magandahan siya sa Runrio races since ambaba ng pinagkukumparahan. Just my 2 cents.

  23. BTW, at the finish line, some lady approached me, jotted down my race bib number, and took my name. I glanced at the clipboard she was carrying and saw four or five other names.

I was too groggy to ask questions . . .

Anyone know what was that about?

  24. @haaayzzz

hey :) there is a gun sa gunstart, light sa starting line and lights sa buendia flyover (nakakasilaw pa nga kasi sa runners nakatapat ung iba, hehe).

Thank you sir….

  26. @RunBabyRun: I don’t remember hearing anything going “boom” or “bang” during the start of the 21k race…

Another thing that I noticed is… Walang Extra Small sa Finisher’s shirt… Tinipid ba talaga to the point na binawasan nang isang size???

  28. @Haaayzzz meron pong XS, I was able to get one, iyon nga lang sa ibang finisher’s tent ko nakuha. At first nakuha ko is medium, super laki sa ibang tent, so nag ikot ako and ask sa mga staff, jackpot got one xs.

And mga co-runners, since alam na pong 4:30 ang gun start, malamang madilim diba, dapat we take the initiative to bring our own headlights/flash lights para huwag madapa. Kahit may mga marshalls along the road, dapat meron tayong presence of mind for our own safety.

I greatly commend the staff manning the 21k baggage area, iyong nasa loob ng bus. Kahit madami ng irate na tao because of poor coordination, grabe ang patience nila.

  30. @ solo runner : i think they randomly took names and bib numbers para they have reference sa race results ng mga runners, if the time they wrote down would match with the btag time that will be registered

  31. @Haaayzzz meron pong XS, I was able to get one, iyon nga lang sa ibang finisher’s tent ko nakuha. At first nakuha ko is medium, super laki sa ibang tent, so nag ikot ako and ask sa mga staff, jackpot got one xs.

**Clarification lang hah** Got one xs, in exchange of the medium shirt that I got.

  32. Haaayzzz is provoking everyone to argue to make this thread alive. walang basehan ang mga tanong niya. parang wala siya duon at nanghuhula lang.

    1. No Gun sa gunstart? – KUNG NAKIKINIG KA NAGBILANG NG PAATRAS MULA 10 TO 1.
    2. No fireworks? – KAILANGAN BA ITO?
    3. No lights sa Start line? – MALIWANAG NAMAN AH.
    4. No lights sa Buendia Flyover – MERON AT BAKA NAKAPIKIT KA LANG.
    5. Kaunti ng Powerade unlike before – MERON AT DALAWA PA ANG FLAVOR.
    6. Halos walang marshals – SAPAT LANG AT KASAMA ANG MGA PULIS SA MARSHALS.
    7. Di kinukuha yung stub sa bib sa Finisher’s Kit booths – ITO LANG AT TOTOO SA REKLAMO MO.

  34. congratulation to all runners..
share ko lang regarding security on the race, @kl19, running my pace along macapagal, may nakita akong outside runner who intentionally nangbabanga ng mga runners, his bullying every runners na makalapit sa kanya, di ko alam kung nasa matinong pag-iisip sya, pero nakarunning shoes sya tapos nakakulay brown tshirt, indi nman siguro sya sira ulo..since may kalakihan sya pinagpapasensyahan n lng sya nung mga runners..then nung dumaan ako, lumapit ako sa kanya and binangga nya talaga ako intentionally, soo sa inis ko rin binangga ko rin sya..then biglang nagalit at sabi sakin sapakan na lang kaya tayo..sabi ko naman ano bang problema mo at namamanga ka ng mga runners then bigla ba naman humugot sa my shorts nya, soo dumistansya ako sa kanya kasi baka may patalim yung mama, bigla akong napadefence mode kasi baka bigla na lang akong saksakin nito..tapos ayun tumawa sya saka sabi sakin takot ka naman pala eh..:( sabi ko sa sarili ko kaya ko pa kayang umisprint nito after running 19kms..soo bahala na, pumunta ako sa harapan nya then sabi ko tara sapakan tayo, then sabay pahabol sa kanya, ano ako sira lalabanan sya..soo yun hinabol nya nga ako, sprint ako along bluewave then sa may corner papuntang MOA, alam ko palaging my pulis don saka mga martials, pagdating ko dun sinabi ko kagad sa pulis tapos tinuro ko yung mama na humahabol pa din sakin, pagdaan nya dinampot ng pulis sabay babye ako sa kanya..buti na lang di ako nun naabutan saka walang nasaktan at di ako napulikat during the sprint kundi patay..salamat dun sa mamang pulis na yun, di ko na rin natanong pangalan nya ngmamadali na din kasi ako to break my PR..:)
Yun sana lang wag hahayaang may makahalubilong non-registered runners on the route on the next event, di kasi tayo makasisiguro na walang masasaktang runners during the race..

  35. To coach Rio…sad to say, but you just can’t please everyone.

Just keep on doing what you’re doing. More power to you and RunRio.

  36. I joined the 2012 Condura Skyway Marathon 42k. Almost of the 42k run only water were offered at the aid stations. Only 2 aid stations have 100 plus and only 1 aid station offers bananas and GU energy gel and no sponges at all. Got a medal and a shirt but not everyone.
Run United 1 offers Powerade and water at all aid stations, 3 aid stations offers bananas and 4 stations offers sponges through out our 21k run. Got a medal and a shirt but not everyone again.

  37. ..i was at the tail end of the pack of 21k runners.. after passing taft avenue along buendia, i noticed an empty hydration station..no bottles, no water, nothing.. although there were a few volunteers manning the station giving away a hot cup of TAHO bought from a vendor.. i took a pass but some of the runners accepted it.. nice gesture

  38. I share the same sentiment with my fellow runners. Generally the race was well organized but we cannot deny the fact the there is no perfect race. Minus the downsides, I think Runrio is still one of the best run orgnizers in town and I wont stop running just because of some flaws committed by the them. I know some of those are beyond their control including the “breach of security issue” and for that I forgive them. I know they are reading every comment that we post not only here but also in other blog sites. They are learning from our valuable inputs that is why Runrio-organized events keep on getting better and better each time.

I’m one of the multitude of 21k runners who failed to receive the well-deserved finishers kit after crossing the finish line. This is true for those finishers who clocked 2:45 and beyond. I still want to receive the kit because for me it’s priceless. Every finisher earned it… every second of it.

I’m confident that Runrio will compensate for the lapses and would ensure that these flaws will be rectified next time.

Kudos to all the runners and see you all in the next leg.

Kakatuwa ang mga level ups to their 21K. Maayos naman ang new route from BGC to MOA and as always kakapagod na ung last 3kms before the Finish Line, at least for me, hehe.

Maikli ung ibang hydration tables along Buendia and kinapos ng preparation ang mga personnel as the runners were approaching to hydrate. Gud thing may portalets along the way. Maraming banana supplies, yeyy.

Its always nice to see Coach Rio very hands on at nag-iinspect ng conditions of runners and his staff along the route. Napansin nyo ba ung gloves nya? Nice porma, coach ^_^

Nice to see the medal in its actual size.

Kudos to Coach Rio who was quick enough to release his apology statement before pa bumaha ng other sari-saring comments.

  40. @JP
thanks to your Comment #49 on the
celebs, sightings and inspirations. im humbled and flattered to be included in your list of special mentions.

My Angry Bird balloon partner would also like to thank you.

Until the next AB appearance ^_^

  41. The three most important things for a run in my judgment:

    -it starts on time
    -there are adequate hydration stations
    -traffic is adequately controlled

I would like to say thanks for starting early (4:30 not 5:00), it was an excellent and welcome change that got adequate notice by e-mail.

Water stations were really good after the first 5km, but for the first 5km, the hydration stations were so overloaded that they were functionally inaccessible.

Traffic was not controlled well at every intersection, but once the run was on Roxas, everything was well controlled.

After that, a few other issues are worthy of discussion. There was inadequate lighting for much of the first 5km. A rolling start (by wave) would have helped some significant crowding. The route from BGC to MOA was novel, but didn’t add much to the usual 21km experience. Port-a-lets at the start were sparse, and the baggage bus lines were long, but my fault for arriving only 15 minutes early. Nice job on sports drink, bananas, sponges. An interesting finisher’s medal and a good finisher’s shirt.

  42. I’m so happy naman for myself kasi I was able to run continously. I only walked every time I reached a water station. The LSDs and tempo runs really paid off. Kaso I was not able to beat my previous PR for the 10k but ok lang hehehe

im surprise with the size of the medal, pag nabuo singlaki siguro nang plato.

nice event! congratz to the organizers.

till next race! leg 2 kita kitz!

Sayang nagka-problema pa but that was a real major problem.

i kept my claim stub with me, hopefully you’ll count me in para sa next batch na bibigyan niyo po ng finisher’s kit..

thanks in advance and more power..

  47. from runrio.com:

To get your chip time, please type RESULT RU1/DISTANCE/BIB NO/NAME/BIRTHDATE,

example – result ru1/5k/5447/thomas caballero/06201973 and send your SMS to mobile no. 09229992444.

We are encouraging you to try our new application and we hope that the experience will be a positive one. The official results will be posted in Unilab Active Health and RunRio Facebook fan pages starting March 12, Monday.

  48. It takes until March 12 to have the results released on the internet. But we can txt for our results to get them by txt message. My analyze is that a lot of people will do, because they can’t wait until March 12.
And that is extra cash for the organizer. C’mon Rio, do what was promised and publish the results online within 2 days! Thanks!

  49. good race. but with a few big impact flaws.

    – ubusan sa finisher’s kit at shirt
    – baggage counter bus for 21km eh walang sistema sa pagclaim in moa
    – unilab certificate claiming tent should have been in the active health village

  50. RU1 race results: CONGRATS! dexter correa from UNILAB and RUNRIO for finishing the 10k race.BIB# 4929. Your Chip TIME is 54:18. love it

I wanted to be level-headed about it since 2010 pa ko sumasali sa Run United 21k/32k, pero yun talaga napansin ko eh, na tinipid ngayon. Kung masaya ka, edi mabuti, but that doesn’t mean everybody else feels the way that you do. There is always room for improvement, so people like me are just helping the organizers to the right path.

  52. sooo happy to see a lot of 21K runners, at parang konti lang agn 3,5 at 10K runners. this means lahat ng tao level up!!! CONGRATS to all .. :o)
sarap manghikayat ng mga frends to run – start at 3K leveling up till they are able to run 21K.

  53. napansin ko rin naman ang lahat ng kakulangan during yesterday’s race – but then again, nag enjoy naman ako, at alam ko madami rin ang nag enjoy.
felt sorry for those who were not able to grab their finisher stuff, alam na ng organizer yun, and all we gotta do is wait na lang (at follow up of course) … and then move on to the next race… kasi wala na tayo magagawa – tapos na, at may mga tao na nagparating nga kanikanilang puna sa di masyado magandang pangyayari o sitwasyon kahapon.

  54. nice one unilab… just finish my run for 1hr 57min… wala pang training yan =) all fellow 21k runners congrats …. halos naka sabay ko team titans idol all of u guys … si kuya KIM ang lakas tumakbo amp… galante 2lga rio… puro power aid ang bngbay wala ganu tubig… tumbs up!!! cguro lng ung mga late naka tapos medyu d na umabot sa finsher shirt… again congrats to all 21k fellow runners… =)

  55. Once again with feelings.

YO! Yo! yo!

  60. got my run result today via sms. 2:48:00 for 21K. not bad for a past 40 guy huh? I’ve improved my time by 9 mins since Milo 21K. Again, cheers to all the runners.

  61. Great Run for everyone.. just didn’t have my finisher’s shirt..

  62. I just wonder why results are not yet published, but becomes available via SMS. Another great business venture between the race organizer and telcos (at the runners’ expense nga lang:-(

  63. iba talaga pag runrio event kahit pa nagiging pila sa hydration area wag nating masamain dahil talagang sangkatutak ang 21k runners n nagparticipate and sa nawalan ng mga finishers kit yan eh kagagawan ng mga kasama nating walang disiplina at mapangabuso. see u guys sa ru2 till phil marathon

  64. CONGRATZ po sa inyong lahat! I missed this event . .

  65. Congrats Coach Rio for such a great event!!!

  66. would like to know if the chip time and official results are the same or no difference? thanks…congrats all runners

  67. It was a great run for me and the rest of our group, Runners After Work (18 runners for RU1)- sayang kung naakabot sana yung other 10 RAW members to run mas marami sana kami sa 21km .

The sad thing about RU1 two of our members did get hold of their finisher shirt and we have been advised by RunRio that they will address this matter the soonest.By reading the post/comment now I know what happen to the singlets/finisher kit.

Kudos, to the marshal @ Buendia area, though one of the driver cought in the traffic is fuming mad about the traffic situation, he keep his cool in explaining to the car owner about the run and the traffic situation.

  68. To runrio organizer congrats. sana sa Leg2 ma-improve yung distribution ng baggage ng 21k at paghandaan yung volume na magjoin sa race. medyo magulo yung first 3 Hydration station. pero skin overall Good Job. see you on LEG2.

  69. Congratulations UNILAB & to COACH RIO and Staff for the JOB WELL DONE! it was my first time to run a 21K, i started running last year Dec 11, 2011 for the 35th Milo Marathon & i loved it! Since then i always run when my schedules permits me, i loved running, specially those events organized by coach RIO, am happy because my stamina is improving, really good for a beginner like me. looking forward for RU2.

  70. @gary_m

Meron charge di ko lang sure. Pero in fairness may pre-race text din nagtatanong kung sasama sa shuttle at nagveverify ng name at bib# so balanced naman.

  71. @lucille
many thanks to you and TeamPagongRunners
for posting your link. ang dami ngang naghahanap ng RU1 pics nila.

kita kits sa next event ^_^

Tapos meron itong mamang naka-scooter, pumasok in sa running lane.

    A few suggestions :

    1. Use the leg 1 results to assign waves for the leg 2 , 21K runners. Put the faster runners in front. (Not trying to be an elitist, mabagal din ako.) Medyo mabusisi ito, pero mukang kailangan na considering the sheer number of 21K runners. Color-code or assign bib number ranges according to wave. I would think the faster runners won’t mind going to a specific registration booth to claim their assigned bib numbers if it would mean their way would be clear come raceday.

    2. Color-code the claim stubs to prevent runners from claiming finisher’s kits from other categories, i.e. a 5k runner can’t claim a 21K runner’s kit.

  73. Had major problems leaving the area after the race. The traffic marshalls were sending us in different directions! While inconvenient, it would have been better if foot and vehicle traffic to and from the venue was managed properly.
