From outside the gate it looks like one of those non-traditional schools where kids from affluent families are sent to encourage their holistic development. In some ways they are similar, because Chosen Children Village Foundation (CCV) in Silang Cavite does have facilities that encourage creativity and learning… plus the kids speak English with fluency. But these kids do not have rich parents – in fact, the families they’ve come to know are the carers and benefactors of the foundation. There are around 80 residents from infants to adults and they are siblings to one another.

CCV is home to mentally and/or physically-challenged abandoned, neglected or surrendered children. The four hectare parcel of land consists of several living cottages, a school, a rehabilitation center, playground and self-sustaining facilities such as a centralized kitchen and a vegetable garden.

Executive Director, Ms. Che Naval explains that since the facility is a permanent home for most of the residents, it also provides a training ground for the growing number of children under its care to maximize their potentials and help them become productive and self-reliant members of society.

Kim

In charge of the Babies’ Cottage and School Store is Kimberly, a former resident trained as a caregiver. She is now a salaried employee of CCV and is able to enjoy the fruits of her hard work with a leisure trip to Cebu last year.

DAVE

There’s also Dave who works with the in-house Nutritionist and assists in the food preparations for the children. He’s good in baking and making pizza. The employees claim to get nosebleeds when Dave is feeling extra chatty with his flawless English.

Right outside the gate is a beautiful chapel that CCV has opened to the community so that residents would have a chance to meet and befriend others. The lives of the Chosen Children may not have started out joyfully but they are now well cared for. As a visitor, one only needs to bask in the sunlight streaming down from the chapel windows and a world full of hope for Kimberly, Dave and the rest of the CCV kids.
