  1. @RunSanSan Hindi paninira ang intentions ko when I comment na sa opinyon ko NatGeo Run was one of the worst (if not the worst) run of 2012.

It was based on personal experience kaya sharing lang ng experience. Anyway, for people who are wondering what happened last year…these are my experience.

    1. Hydration stations were a mess and not enough. Instead of a long table, they used a booth kaya nagkagulo ang mga runners sa pagkuha ng tubig.

    2. No energy drinks….and ang layo ng pagitan ng mga hydration stations.

    3. No bananas and sponge for 21K runners. These are basic needs ng mga runners na tumatakbo ng 21K. And considering na 1150 pesos ang reg fee.

    4. The controversial plastic cups mess. Kulang ang mga trash bins ni organizer.

    5. No race markers.

    6. Ang tagal nilabas ang results…according to gun start pa instead of chip time.

    7. No loot bag…I’m not really particular on this but with the high reg fee, sana man lang bumawi sa loot bag.

Bring your own banana and energy drinks. :)

  2. if you think all people can run as fast and as far as you can, well there’s something wrong with your mind.. and yes, posting your time is such a bad idea.. now i know who you are and what you look like..

  3. @ Sir Jerome – just wanna ask how long have you been using your garmin 305? gusto ko sana bumili kaso hindi ko alam kung gaano sya katagal bago masira..

  4. @huwann – I bought mine March 2011. Perfect running, pun intended hahaha, condition still. Got it at $128! Hanap bargain at Amazon! No problems with it, rain or shine. USB port interface nga lang. The newer ones have USB receivers. If you are forking out money anyway, go for the 910XT na lang at baka gusto mong mag-graduate to Tri(wink!wink!) Seriously though, go 910XT. Find a kin who can ship this to you from US to save cost. I use my 305 and XT. Even same time just for the heck of it!!!! Hahaha, different results pa!!!

  5. Ako din wala pa and I registered March 17 pa.
My friend also registered in GB, sabi wala daw Large na singlet, at ite-text na lang siya if ready na for pick-up, with the warning na walang guarantee na magkakaroon ng shirt for him. Please say it ain’t so NG.

  6. @strider MyRun Time, ayaw naman malagyan ung box
ng number at code. Then kailan ba magiging available ung singlet kc last Friday ubos na ung singlet, to follow na lang daw,Bib lang at bottle nakuha ko…

  7. i went to register at greenbelt last sunday. i asked them if i could fit the singlet first “over” my shirt and they said “no”. ok then may i know what are the corresponding chest sizes in inches or cm (at least i know my chest size) and they told me “ay sir sorry hindi po namin alam eh”. here’s the kicker, “at sir ang available lang po naming sizes ngayon sa 21K is 2XL and SMALL at hindi po namin alam kung kelan dadating”. “tawag-tawag nalang kayo sa organizers para i-follow-up”.

great customer service? no. it’s awesome!

this organization is earth-friendly yes but not friendly to the people like us who happens to economically make their existence thrive.

I hope I meet you or see you running on the road, baka mabugbog pa kita !! PEACE :-) Anyway guys !! Let’s run for Health & for Mother Earth, see you on the road.

  9. @running ronnie… very good! walang pakialaman…kanya-kanya namang bayad ng registration eh…sana naman makita, mabasa at gawan ng paraan lahat ng Run Organizers ito…. and to the moderator of this site…you should have not permitted such comments…may Policy ka pa ng lagay na ‘yan ha….

  10. @Red: You may still use the timing chip normally even if you don’t connect it with Facebook. However you will be missing out on the exciting social features of Strider ;)

@pELITE runner: May I ask what browser you’re using? Our site works best with Google Chrome and Fire Chrome :)

  13. @Moderator

How could a comment like #120 be allowed? lol.

    From your Comment Policy:

  16. @118
i agree with you sir. nung nagpapalit ako ng singlet size sa GB3 yung isang staff nila na medyo maitim na may pagka-chubby ansama tumingin para akong kakainin sa inis. for you mister natgeo staff sana mabasa mo ito. sorry hindi po kasi maganda yung naging fitting sakin nung singlet size na nakuha ko at kung pwede lang mag pa-refund gagawin ko dahil natatakot ako sayo. sana wag nyo lang ibigay ang mga poging mga ngiti nyo sa mga new registrants nyo.

  17. @flash,

    lololol

  18. @ Sir Jerome – Thanks for the info.. 910xt is way beyond my budget.. im considering 310xt because of the extended battery life compared to 305..

  19. Running is a sport. It is competitive too. The difference though is there are elite runners, there are wannabes and there are recreational. I am a wannabe, soon to be recreational :-) A runner here has been fortright that he made a “mistake” and some continued to bash. Fortunately, he decided to be on topic. However, it’s rather unfortunate, trolling or not, that some even signified bodily harm. Be sportsmanlike even when an opinion goes against your grain and be civil. The mere fact that we are all in this forum means we are educated. Remember that.

  20. @Huwann Good luck on your purchase. One thing I can opine is: if you are just running, 305 is good enough. Alagaan mo lang talaga to prolong the battery life, as you would any gadget. And you can have it replaced via the local distributor. As far as I know, pag pinalitan battery mo, its the whole unit that they replaced. Might take up to 8 weeks yata as they send that to Taiwan. But less na bayad.

    “maging mapanuri, mapagmatyag, mapangahas….matanglawin”

  25. Organizers..can you update us sa mga singlets namin na pinangako nyo na ideliver samin within a week..2 weeks na eh wala pa kahit man lang notice on assurance dun sa mga singlets na kung anu na ang nangyari..please advise..thanks

  26. Hi, i have registered online NATGEO RUN 2013 and paid pero i got an email na this is just an initial step of registration pls send payment to ——-… I emailed secretariat like 4times already, no reply as of this time. I called up my credit card hotline napasok na ang payment ko…. sin-o dapat e contact? Im not from manila pa naman dapat mail nila race packet outside of manila.

    • no medal!! no Finisher shirt???? bad experience last year…tama lahat ung cnabi ni Rodeo kaya ako!!! pass nlang nkakadala talaga.. gd luck sa mga ttakbo at naman sana maulit ung nkaraan…

  27. I don’t really care if hydration is a mess. sanay ako ng 21k na konti or walang tubig(i bring 2 6oz sa hydro belt, pero isa lang nauubos ko for 21k distance and none for lower distance.), I also don’t need banana during the race, im a fruitarian so I already ate plenty of fruits and veggie the day before(I usually eat before 6pm before the long run day). i don’t need sponge, ayaw ko nga mabasa, tapos mag ssponge pa.. hahaha.. I train my self to run with a very little resource, eg. no water, no banana, no energy drink/gels. I only need to wear my shorts, my shirt/signlet/sando and thats it. Though im not a fast runner, im sure Im tough enough for this challenge.. wag na kayo puro reklamo.. train your self hard and lacking ng mga hinahanap nyong pang pamper sa sarili during run ay hindi na magiging mahalaga. Isa lang masasabi ko.. pucha ganda ng singlet for 21k.. register na!!!!…(no offense ha.. napagtripan ko lang mag comment kasi medyo bored)..

    • Hi sir, might I bother you with a few questions?

How do you manage to run with minimum water? I mean in the course of your running ba, did you gradually develop it or natural sa inyo na hindi uhawin? I would like to espouse the same technique. 6oz/21k is crazy, though I wish I could do that. I usually don’t hydrate before 10k, and I finish 2 6oz in 21kms, often more, due to the water I get from the stations. I also believe in simplicity, no energy drinks etc. (which is sugar and uppers mainly), and want to run as naturally as possible.

On the sponge bit, seryoso po ba o humor?

Anyway, thanks for the post, good advice all throughout.

      • @red – what works for one does not necessarily mean it will work for you. So, be careful. I do not hydrate myself during 10 k runs. But i do drink before and after. It takes training to “minimize” hydration during middle distance runs if you are time conscious with the lost time on water stations. But how “elite” are you to toy with racing with minimal hydration? I am impressed w your 21k time but I’d rather you train to swipe quickly a cup from the station and gulping it down with nary a loss of pace. I agree that runners do not need the energy gels or the sports drinks as evidenced by the performance of early day athletes. But they do help in prolonging performance or quick recovery compared from to the past. For 21k, water is more than sufficient, I’d venture to say. No frills.

  28. Using water bottles is a nice touch, but is it bpa free? Hope refilling won’t be such a hassle seeing that the bottles have narrow mouths.

  29. @Jerome AM Tan
Hi sir, thanks. I wouldn’t consider myself elite, but I’d like to be more minimal in my runs, while my mind and body can still handle it. I asked taong_gubat because I really wonder if it is a product of training on his part or something that is natural to him. On my part, my “push” is usually during the year-end Milo marathons, where I try to improve on my previous performance and requirements. I remember in my early running days, I couldn’t run 5k without drinking at least 300-500ml, at 40mins. haha good times. As I run more, I realized less is better.

Let me share a story since I’m in the story-telling mode already. One time I had the audacity to try to run with a few Kenyans in the front of a 21k. I made some small talk and asked them about their running techniques. One of them, anticipating the trajectory of my inquiry, told me something that I keep in mind always: “there are no secrets. running is training. you have to run regularly so that your body can catch your mind.” I am not sure if he meant it in a Cartesian way, but I think I get his message. If you want to run fast, you have to run fast, which means you prepare your body for fast (and long distance running). I am still in awe how they can pace 3min/km on a 21/42k. I would be practically sprinting on that speed.

    • I agree w the Kenyan tenet of training fast. Naprove ko yan lately…. never ran more than 1 hour, nor more than 4x a week for my Yakult race. But I did 2-30 minutes and 1-45 min speed training per week to the run up of Yakult. Did well in the race. I had hill training of 8 repeats every other week, too. Had i trained not to run-walk, I probably could have done better. But not close enough to yours, hahaha! But a running coach once told me, train your body to simulate high speed condition. Regardless of the distance you cover, the body will not see the distance but your physical state as it responds. Mahirap ko intindihin dati, but I get it now. Kaso 45 na tayo. The body could only take so much. And like I said, magiging recreational runner na lang ako soon

    • Never could take their 3 min/km clip. Nasa ambulance na ako nun hahaha! But if you were able to keep pace with them even for 500 m, I think you might not be like them, hardy-har-har, but you sure could run. It would be nice to see you past me by and try to pace with you – for 50m!

      • Tama about the run-walk. Major regret ko is learning about it early when I was just starting. I started with the really amateur 4:1, then 9:1. First year ko I couldn’t even get beyond the 50% mark. Narealize ko I had enough power pa na baka hindi efficient with all the walking. Ngayon I run all the way, taking only a 1-2ish min after 30, and significant improvement.

At tama din about the body/speed/physical state thing. Sabi nga ni Murakami. the body is a machine, just train it what to expect and it will perform accordingly. Ang usual weekly schedule ko is 2 30min runs, 2 5k sprints, and a weekend 15k run, 21k kung maganda ang gising. I may miss some days too, but I try not to miss the sprints.

Re: that darned time thing (I chuckle now because of the tempest it created here), nainis lang ako kasi it was my first 21 after the 2011 Milo marathon, so pinaghandaan ko talaga to hit the 1:30 mark. Anyway, I think I still have a good 3-5 “wannabe-wannabe” years hahahaha. Congratulations on the will and discipline, Sir. I’m not even sure if I’ll still even have the desire to run 21k when I’m 30 na hahaha.

Re: them Kenyans, after 1k, biting dust na ako, kung nagpatuloy pa ako sa pace na yon heart attack na sigurado haha,

At yes Sir, it would be an honor running along with you. NGC perhaps?

PS. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a legitimate running/sports forum where we can create discussion threads about the this and thats of our running life? Knock knock PF.

    • Sir RED hindi totoo na what works for one does not necessarily mean it will work for you, kung examine mo yung message nung taong gubat kaya hindi cya nag hidrate malalaman mo yung secret behind tough runner eventually kasunod nun fast, tough runner ayoko mag spoon feeding you have to search on your own hindi naman masama gayahin yung mga elite but they will prove you no wrong… hindi porket kenyan yun hindi muna kayang pantayan yung bilis nila just search thoroughly not so amazed by their speed remember tao lang mga yun and ofcourse malaking factor ang continuous workout but hindi lang dun nag base ang training… newbie lang po ako sa run… :)

      • tao lang din sila.. but with different genetic components.. kaya hindi pa rin magiging magkatulad ang pinoy at kenya..

  30. We commend the organizer for the green initiatives such as tree planting and recycled materials. But we hope that hydration will not be chaotic as runners swamped each water refilling station to refill their empty water bottles.

  31. Natgeo Run, saan kayo magtatanim ng puno? Sa bakuran nyo ba yan? Walang beneficiary at details about sa tree planting nyo. Pera pera lang talaga. Peace!

    • I’ve registered last march 19 in greenbelt 3 but since the singlets are not yet available they’ve told me to leave my delivery address. but until now i haven’t received it.

      • Same here, ako naman I registered online last March 18 but I have not received my singlet. Mabuti pa bf ko, when he went at Greenbelt 3 last March 22, nakuha niya agad singlet niya. Samantalang ako til now wala pa.

  32. @Red: My run-walk is actually yielding better results for me. But its because of the sprints and hill training I have seriously adopted. My 11-1 is worming my way out of the run-walk. Up until TBR, I used 5-1. Pero straightaway run din ako dati. I am going back to it, I used the run-walk to get a safer run for my 1st marathon.

Seems bata ka pa naman. I think you have a good chance to hit a sub 3 marathon. Just focus on it rather than racing everytime. Why pay so much when you know you can hit your time goal anyway. Use few races to get your competitive juices going. Focus on the sub-3 goal.

Not running NGC, but more of the short distances to improve my speed a little bit. But will run the takbo run fest as part of my “speedy” (naks, mabagal sa level mo) long run. If you run it, I would be willing to run a few kilometers with you before you feed me with your dust!

    • @Jerome AM Tan
I know kung ano ang target race mo: Challenge Run dan-dan-dan! Hahaha (Whatever happened to that? Ang labo kasi nila sumagot.) j/k Sir.

True true, thanks for the advice.
Hope to see you on the road healthy and strong one of these days!

    • Sir Boyzilla, sabi nga ng Milo, “Kaya mo yan!” I’m sure we can do this… Di ka po nag iisa sa dilemna having the TNF100 and MAR then ito plus me kasama pang Run2Run…

      • Garud Lakay Emjay, sna naman laging may stock na singlet kasi alam naman nila na they have to give you your singlet after paying them your hard earned CASH pag register mo!
        Hehe peace!
        Awanen ti pag pleten lakay!

  33. registered last monday.. 3k lang.. pwede bang mag-palit ng size? masyadong malaki ang nakuha ko no fitting kasi sabi eh..

  34. ..5am ang gunstart ng 21km??..6am npkainit n ndi kya lalo mrahirapn ung mga 21k runners..since ang ave.time for 21k n mtpos ang race is 2.5hr which means aabutin kmi ng 7:30am , mataas n po ang siksat ng araw nun.

  36. Hindi po sasagot yung mga tao na yun busy kc cla at as I observed last april 10, nang nagpa register ako sa greenbelt3 hindi nman friendly kung mag ackaso sila pero hindi ko alam yung side nila baka pagod lang and to tell you the truth wala na pong extra sizes latest is yung 10k below is small sizes lng available and mostly medium ang natitira sa 21k but marami pang nagpa register kaya humabol na kayo… magandang RUN ito.. DOnt be disturbed sa mga negative feedback hindi nman lahat ng panahon ganun… dont be prejudice!

    • do what them kenyan’s do:
U better RUN as fast as u can; or the LIONS running behind u will eat u for brunch.

  37. what kind of administration is this?? waiting for the reply… gising naman kayo at tingnan nyo mga message/email nyo….ilang araw na ako naghihintay sa reply nyo… hoy gising!!!
