The Rescue Run

I received this letter from a friend of mine, and I thought it is worth posting:

Hi guys.

I’m writing you to gather support for a fundraising event for the
Typhoon Ondoy victims.
Most of us are fortunate to have survived that storm relatively
unscathed.  But hundreds of thousands are homeless.

We can still help while doing what we love to do most.

I thought of asking for donations from friends during our next weekend
training session so we can make a donation to the PNRC.
Turns out a lot of you were thinking of the same thing as well.
So why not turn it into a larger fundraiser?

What I had in mind was something called THE RESCUE RUN.
It isn’t a race.
There are no race bibs, no souvenir t-shirts, no swag bags, no
finishers medals, no prize money.

THE RESCUE RUN is open to all athletes, their families and friends.
Anyone who is willing to help while getting a few minutes of exercise.
Not just the tri community but everyone who’s willing to help.

What it could turn out to be is the biggest run we could do.  In lieu
of registration fees, we will ask for donations, depending on the
distance you intend to cover.
>
> Distances:  3km, 5km, 10km
> Donations:  3km:  P300, 5km:  P400, 10km:  P500
> Corporate Sponsors:  P5,000 for 20 runners
> All proceeds will be donated to the Philippine National Red Cross
> for the Typhoon Ketsana victims
>
> Venue:  SM Mall of Asia (to be confirmed)
>
Logistics for the race will be purely voluntary.  We can ask for help
from our teams, sponsors, clients, friends and families.

But this needs to happen quickly because our help is needed now.   The
proposal is to hold THE RESCUE RUN on October 4, 2009 (Sunday) at 7 a.m.
There are other races that could be scheduled for that weekend but
we’re hoping that athletes are willing to forego them in order to help
those who’ve lost homes, valuable possessions and loved ones.

Hoping for your support,

Raoul Floresca

    • Hi Mia, no need to register. Just go to the venue and make a donation. There are no race bib, no singlet and no marshalls for this event. Hope to see you there!
