Road Testing the Nike Free RN Flyknit

Last week, friends from Nike invited us to attend the launch of the latest Nike Free Collection. The event started with Patrick, Nike’s Country Marketing Manager welcoming everyone to the event, and introduced Soy Soriano, Ekin (aka product expert) to talk about the latest Nike Free:

The new Nike Free Collection features a progressive geometric auxetic midsole designed to enable an athlete’s natural motion and develop strength, whether they are running or training.

Drawing upon new studies that reveal how the foot expands and contracts upon impact with and liftoff from the ground, the splaying, auxetic midsole mimics how the body and foot react to force. It absorbs shock while accounting for the dual-plane expansion in foot size — approximately one size in length and two sizes in width — that occurs throughout an athlete’s foot strike.

Moreover, the multi-directional outsole flexibility closely mimics this changing shape, whether an athlete is moving linearly in running or multi-directionally in training. The resulting flexibility puts the foot, rather than the shoe, in control. Or, as explained by three-time gold medal sprinter Allyson Felix, “Using Nike Free footwear in my training is all about strengthening my feet. I really like having that natural movement in my shoes. Everyone’s feet are different, so it’s great to have a shoe that really moves with you.”

Afterwards, we were handed a pair of Nike Free RN Flyknit to road test ourselves! I got on my blue pair and joined the Nike Run Club Session happening outside the store. It was my first time attending NRC so I had no idea what to expect. At exactly 7:34pm, we formed lines as we were about to do running drills led by none other than Coach Rio himself.

After jumping, rice planting, lunging, butt kicking, and a few more drills, we joined our respective groups. There were groups you can join: 3k, 5k, 10k distances at paces ranging from 5:30 to 8:00. Each group has at least one coach and one pacer. I conservatively joined the 3k 7:00 group led by Pacer Avic.

The Nike Free RN Flyknit

The zonally engineered, lightweight Flyknit upper combines a sock-like fit with a classic silhouette that molds to the foot. The midsole features the same expansive auxetic technology with a brand new, softer IU foam for additional underfoot comfort.

When I wore the shoes, they felt soft and comfy around my feet. Nike Free RN Flyknit’s so light, it was almost as if I wasn’t wearing anything! It’s like my feet and shoes were one. I started running and I loved how snugged the shoes fit.

Our group ran one loop around BGC and before we know it, we have ran 3kms already! Our pacer led the cool down stretches and then we’re done! Overall it was a great. I got to test Nike Free’s latest pair, I got to meet fellow fitness bloggers, and I got to join NRC!
