A fitting follow up from their debut fund raising run event last year, World Vision Philippines made another successful holding of its World Vision Run 2013 held June 23 at Bonifacio Global City.

More than 3,000 runners registered, came and ran to show support for the children under World Vision’s care. The event’s proceeds will be able to help provide a child with access to life-changing basics like nutritious food, clean water, healthcare, and education.

This year’s 21K took the runners once more until the railroad tracks of Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati and South Superhighway while the bulk of runners for 5K and 10K enjoyed the premises of BGC.

Since the run was powered by Runrio, roving Race Director Coach Rio dela Cruz made sure runners were properly and well-hydrated, alert marshalls at various points and intersections, coordinated security/traffic management plus visible medics/ambulances along the course.

All 21K finishers got their very shiny finisher’s medal while the rest of the runners each got finisher’s hydration and more freebies from participating sponsors in the ample acitivity area.

Very in-demand hosts RX 93 radiojock Gelli Victor and WV endorser/sponsor himself Marc Nelson kept the post-race ceremonies alive and bubbly as they facilitated the distribution of raffle prizes, special awards and tokens/medals to deserving podiumers.

Awarding

Congrats shout out to our very own Coach Mherlz Lumagbas for placing 2nd in her 10K run. Plus a special award as Top Filipina in the same category. We’re very proud of you as always!
The World Vision PH booth was also on hand for more information and inquiries on how to help sponsor a child.

Last year, the batch of children sponsored by model/actor/fitness buff Derek Ramsey made a very special and rare appearance.

Some World Vision Philippines officers were visible during the awarding ceremonies and expressed their gratitude and appreciation to all the participants who ran and supported their very worthy cause for the WV children and were looking forward to future events.

The much-awaited performance of pop-rock band Rivermaya sealed the event which turned out to be a people’s mini-concert. Band leader/founder Mark Escueta gamely mingled with the crowd while playing guitar to the delight of the runners. Some also went onstage to have their unlimited photos taken with other bandmates. A male runner was even given the chance by the band to belt out some lines from their popular ditty “Umaaraw, Umuulan”.

“It was great! I always love hosting for World Vision. Happy to be here.” sums up WV sponsor Marc Nelson.

More children are still in need of our assistance, to find out how you can help, please visit www.worldvision.org.ph and sponsor a child today.

Many thanks to Nonoy Floresca, Ela de Leon of World Vision PH, Runrio Team and PINOY FITNESS for the chance to cover this event.
