KENYANS DOMINATE 23RD YAKULT 10 MILER RUN

Kenyans Benjamin Kipkazi won the men and Irine Kipchumba ruled the distaff side of the 23rd Yakulkt 10-Miler (16-kilometer) that started and ended yesterday at the Cultural Center Complex in Pasay City.

Kipkzi clocked 49 minutes and 35 seconds and Kipchumba clocked 1:02.27.

Kipkazi and Kipchumba, both professional runners, each won P7,000 each plus trophies.

The Kenyans made a 1-2-3 finished in the men’s divison with Willy Rotich and Samson Tuwie came in second and third, respectively, in 49:39 and 49:43.

Veteran Eduardo Buenavista came in fourth in 50:09, ahead of another Kenyan Eliud Kering, who came in 50:59. He pocketed P1,000.

Kipkazi ran smoothly and didn’t suffer legs nor stomach cramps throughout the 16 kilometers.

“It was a perfect run and the weather condition was ideal,” said Kipkazi

Irine Kipchumba and compatriot Susan Jemutai made a 1-2 finished for Kenyan in the female divison, clocking 1:02.27 and 1:04. 39, respectively. Former marathon queen Christabel Martes came in third in 1:05.18, edging Miscelle Gilbuena at 1:06.30.

The Kenyans also dominated the 5k with Philip Rono winning in 13 minutes and 31 seconds, beating Joycer Lacno and Junrel Bendoy, who checked in 15:15 and 15:29, respectively.

Lovely Moreno won the distaff side in 20:08, followed by Angelica David in 22:39. Edina Villanueva placed third in 24:01.

Yakult plant manager Mitsuo Taniguchi awarded the prizes and trophies to the top three placers of the 16k and 5k races. He was assisted by sales manager Michael Ong.

More than 3,000 runners competed in the annual race supervised by Rudy Biscocho.

  1. The race was great. Hydration was okay kahit tubig lang. Malamig naman. Hehe. Hehe. Okay na din un finisher shirt. Di sya gaanong kagandahan pag ikinumpara sa usual finisher shirts like sa Runrio events pero I like the design. Ayun lang, just my two cents. :)

  2. great race although hindi actually umabot ng 16K yung route…15.something lang yung distance..but overall maayos and well organized naman, congrats to all :)

  3. who was the guy who was first awarded on stage? ang daming nagpapicture sa kanya yet i do not know him. dont know kung gwapo lang ba talaga sya or he’s a celebrity. anyway, im just intrigued who he is. anyone? :)

  4. maganda and organized yung run. kaya lang bakit naman kinuha pa yung mga tali sa dulo ng race remembrance din sana hehehe. tsaka kahit tapos na yung race and awarding sarado parin yung road ang hirap tuloy umuwe.

  5. Great run! Raming water at sponge! Sarap dahil ice-cold yung water! Congrats sa organizers! :)

  6. agree…ung tali kinuha pa eh remembrance nga naman un…baka gamitin pa next year? haha…succesful run, congrats ok ka ba tyan!

  7. …good race… hydration (water) was sufficient, enough cold sponges, well-managed… i arrived late, i started late, and among the last ones who finished… no hassles… this proves that you can have a good 10 miler for less than 500 pesos… pinoy fitness should rank this as one of the top 10 races of the year…

congrats to Yakult and big ups to the organizers…

  8. i rate this run from 1 to 10 as follows:

    water stations/hydration-9

    race route-8

    freebies/giveaways-9

    running with friends- priceless

Thanks to the race organizers for giving a great run…see you next year!!!

  9. Congratulation to all 23rd Yakult 10 Miler runners… Sana nga dinagdagan man lang yung yakult drink, at sana yung mascot nalang ang naka print sa finisher shirt mas maganda sana. Attention Mayor Lim, paki improve naman po yung rest room sa PICC kasi yung fee same with Global City na 10 pesos pero napaka dugyot naman wala man lang flush.Just a constructive criticism lang po.

  10. got it at 15.73KM … but its ok .. what I do mind is the summer heat … hope that upcoming distance runs will start much earlier … Thanks Yakult! :)

  11. maraming salamat Yakult!!! minimal lang ung mga dislikes pero all in all i like ur event keep it up and more power to Yakult and Organizers. God Bless you all.

  12. 15.46K from my Garmin. I was hoping na sana umulan dahil walang patawad ang haring araw haha, ang tanging gripe ko lang for the 10 miler category sana it should’ve started earlier, masyado na late yung 5:30am gun start; at tsaka kulang ng more than 500m yung distance. Pero for the race overall, aprub! Maayos baggage counter. Lahat may finisher’s shirt at di naman ata kinulang. The best tasting Yakult will always be the one given to you after a hard, long race.

  13. bat ganun?1hr 28mins ako naging 1hr 35mins. imba :( 12secs delay pa ako bago ako nakaapak sa line ng gun start!tsk

  14. Methinks the results are based on gun time and not chip time. I figure that since this is a PATAFA-sanctioned event, they opted to release the results based on gun time since that is the basis for medals and cash prizes.

  15. Congrats sa lahat ng mga tumakbo. This is my first time to join this event, masaya naman though under construction yung daan at kulang yung portalets all in all binabati ko Yakult organizers sana sa 24th dalawa na yung libreng yakult.hehe

  16. me thinks it’s plus 4 minutes. nasa unahan po ako ng 16K run at gunstart at pagtawid ko ng finish line kita ko ang time ko. it’s plus 4 for me.

anyway, nice run. sufficient hydration, nice weather, di sya uber commercialized. sarap ng yakult after a run :)

  17. A lot of people say the distances weren’t accurate as in short of more or less 500m Baka na-April fools tayo je je je

  18. nga pala i forgot ung banner ng “START” and “FINISH” baliktad yta hehehe! saka ung limang portalets ung 3 n nsa gitna nka baliktad prang ayaw pagamit hehehe!!!

  19. di un baliktad ganun talaga un. isipin mo pipicturan mo ung mga magsisimula syempre START dapat nasa picture. tapos pipicturan mo ung magfifinish dapat FINISH makikita sa picture.

  20. Di na ako sasali nxt year, bitin parin may kulang. Kaya pala un father ko na 2x yakult finisher ng 80’s ayaw ng sumali for the third tym kahit na sponsoran ko pa cuz now i know. Running buddy na kmi paminsan-minsan ni erpats and namimili nang sasalihan maybe because @ 65 y/o Father knows best…. But this run will surely leaves me a gud remembrance. I BEAT MY PREVIOUS 2 PR @ 15K & 16K. Salamat po!

  21. Congrats to all Runners/Finishers! Kudos to Mr.Rudy Biscocho and your Team.

  24. According to my watch, I completed the run in 1:28:53. The results show a time of 1:29:59. So not all have 5 minutes added to their time.

  25. aside from the rough and narrow roads (courtesy of DPWH), it was a great run minus the hype and kakonyohan …

as usual konti ang nagshoot ng photos …

  26. @ mondrick., I was not able to recornize you kc gutom na ko nung mga tym na un… sana tinapik mo ko… but congrats bro… hehehe…

Yakult is a nice event… simple lang pero ok nman… did not expect much coz mura lng kc…

about dun sa distance., gps is not that accurate… bka nasanay lng na lampas lagi sa 16km un tinatakbo sa events… sukatin nio nlng sya sa map… if kulang parin., bawi nlng next tym…

  27. @matabil – i meant ung clock na nasa bubong mismo ng lead car na umandar sa harap ng mga kenyans along the route. tinuro nga ng marshals ung way ng 16k. unfortunately 5k clock yung sa ibabaw nung way na yun.

  28. late ng 1hr hehehehe… at least hindi pa rin me ang pinakahuli sa result ahahaha….pang9 sa huli ahahaha…. dibale…next time i will not be late hehehe….

  29. I took note of what mr.Biscocho said at the start of the race, i’ts one of the few races in the philippines where there are no co-sponsors. So i understand the absence of sports drinks.

  30. great run Yakult! i clocked a new personal best of 22:31 in the 5K run, good for 21st place inside top-50 considering I’m not an elite runner…thanks Yakult.more power!

  31. Which one is accurate? Gps watch or a car’s odometer? I measure the distance using my car…for us to reach the 8km mark (from p.burgos onwards)..we need to cross the coastal road and pass uniwide coastal mall…it seems short talaga sa distance…anyway i enjoyed the simplicity of the race..hope the organizers will fix this next time..
