Running with the Philippine Air Force

When Coach Patrick Joson called me up last week to join a run inside Villamor Air Base, I initially thought the Philippine Air Force is hosting a private fun run inside the compound.

What I initially thought was a private run, turned out to be a personal invite from Coach Patrick Joson’s friend Col Jeff CH to join the Philippine Air Force and experience how a battalion runs around the Air Base every Tuesday and Friday.

This intimate event was also graced by Kuya Kim, Bobby Go, Lara Parpan, and of course Pat Joson.

It was a simple 5K run around the Air Base, but what made this 5K truly different was the experience of running in a battalion.

1. You run with hundreds of individuals (in one orderly line)
2. You have to maintain a constant pace, everyone is equal in the battalion
3. You need to pay attention to the Chant, Yes, the entire battalion repeats the Air Force chant for the entire duration of the run. I believe it’s used to maintain a constant cadence, a mental challenge, and a sign of teamwork and camaraderie.

After the battalion run, we also got a private tour of the base! Check out some of the photos.

Thank you Pat Joson and Col Jeff CH for giving us an opportunity to experience this.

  1. I was hoping the previous PAF run will be organized at the Base. It’s still a wish of mine. Sana this year.
