  1. I had sad experience in this race last year. The 21K was worth P600, I thought it’ll give finisher’s medal but to no avail.

    • @rotech: take it easy bro. i’m sure the organizers are improving their events every time. in the end, kanya kanyang decision padin naman yan kung saang event sasali. Let’s not be to negative. Thanks Bro!

  2. naalala ko tuloy yung mga bouncers. first time ko nakakita sa race na yan ng mga bouncer, di lang marshal. in fairness, ang gagwapo nila mga fafa.

ok sa akin last year kasi sa Ayala ginawa. di masyadong mainit diyan pagkatapos ng race, di gaya sa BGC.

  3. Last year walang medal ang 21K finishers…ang masama pa, di sinabing wala, as in tahimik lang talaga. Isa pa pala, walang lootbags last year, ewan ko kung naubusan ang mga 21 K runners ng mga shorter distanced runners.

  4. Ha Ha, Isa pa pala, may isang bouncer last year na di kalakihan.

  7. @ryan, i guess for a lot of people such things matter – singlet, medal, loot bag, photovendo. this is also because those big events has made it as a standard. so lalabas eh given na me medal (at least) sa 21k runners

para naman sa akin eh basta naniniwala ako sa cause/beneficiary, tatakbo ako. bonus na lang kung ano man ang makukuha ko. though it doesn’t hurt kung me medal na ibibigay para me souvenir naman ako :)

  9. I guess my take on the previous shortcomings of Globe in last years event is that, newbies and regular runners should be cautious and think twice in joining races specially those who have had disappointing experiences. We all have our own reasons for joining a race but no one can blame those who have big expectations from certain events since they expect to get what they paid for and this frustrations commonly comes from new runners. But for those who have been running for sometime or longer, they do not complain that much. They learn to adjust and accept that not all running events are perfect and flawless, they do what they come for, to run. For me, the only important things that i will always expect from all events are lots of watering stations, visible medical team, traffic marshalls and accurate timer. Freebies are just additional perks given as an act of generosity and i think we should be thankful for that. As with the medals, it is only proper that 21k runners should be given one, because it is a half marathon & running that distance is not an easy feat..

  11. @Ryan: I guess we are not just merely looking negative here. I Agree with Barefootdaves-STANDARDs in Running event make it a worthwhile run. And in addition to it, we see to it that QUALITY in the Run-PAYS MORE than what we have paid… Hindi basta takbo-ka-lang-ng-takbo OK na.
Hellooo…? Beginners ka ata eh… Hindi ka marunong mag.observe what it good-run and what is better-run than good-run…

  12. @cecille I strongly agree with you. There is charity in running because we support the cause or set of causes of the organizers but there should also justice and fairness for the runners because without them there is no running community and marathon. So medal po para sa 21K – this is a motivational force for the 21K runners. You can work it out kaya nyo nyan sabi ng Milo Marathon. Salamat po…

  13. @Bug.Runner: namimili ako ng mga running events. the problem is some people eh di na naubusan ng negative feedbacks sa lahattttttt ng running events….kahit na sabihin mong “QUALITY in the Run-PAYS MORE than what we have paid”, meron at meron pa ding negative..ganun tayong mga PINOY eh…

Sorry sir, beginner lang eh..di pa ako ala-buenavista..we have our own perspective if the event is GOOD & BETTER. ikaw ata boss eh tumatakbo ka para lang maging-IN.

Advise lang NEXT-TIME if you want a excellent event, tumakbo ka ng HK/SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA marathon para wala kang masabi….

  14. i did a 10k in standard chartered marathon singapore last december and a handful of my friends did a half-mary and a full. ive also have a 1 year exposure in local races. my observations? a runrio race is comparable if not better. i believe some of our local organizers has heeded to a bigger market of running events which is to provide what has become a standard (medal, banana station, loot bag, finisher shirt, energy drink, et al) besides the usual basics (km markers, water stations and all the stuff that cecille has mentioned)

this is the reality. and we cant escape that fact. kaya nga ang mga tao, natututo na kung saan sasali, kung saan organized, kung saan masaya ang post-run activities. and the organizers has to keep up with the demands. but i have to agree that some demands are quite outrageous. ganun ata talaga, ibigay mo ang kamay mo at buong braso ang kukunin. another fact is, business po ang mga fun run. kelangan din kumita ang mga nagpapatakbo dito. hindi naman sya charity. tapos bibigyan pa ung beneficiary

@pinoyfitness, just feel free to moderate any comment that is detrimental to the running community

  15. @barefootdaves: I 100% agreed to you…

di po ako nakikipag-away. if you look @ my post merong “hindi po ako nakikipag away..peace! :D ”

    takbo lang takbo….

  16. Hold your horses guys. If ever may nababanggit na mga di magagandang experiences sa Globe Race last year, it is because, we also want other runners to be aware of things behind the good advertisements.
Last year, kaya naman ako umasa na may medal yung 21K, kasi Runrio yung nagorganize, mahal yung entry fee at pangatlo, sabi nung staff ng Chris Sport or Toby’s ata yan, di ko na marecall, basta sabi ng staff may medal daw yung 21K. Kaya after kong kumpletuhin yung 21K naghanap ako ng medal.

  19. @Rotech – tama ka dyan. kung may mga bad experiences last year, it’s for the benefit of new runners para di sila magkaroon ng high expectation. Just like me, it will be my first time sana to join this event pero pass muna ako not just because of those bad feedback but a question of loyalty.

  21. gagawin kong basehan ang condura (and my last year’s experience) dahil ang mahal ng regs fee —

    – 20 portalets (sa starting line)
    – 10 portalets (along the route)
    – banana station
    – water station every 1.5kms
    – 15 tables ang water stations
    – nakababad sa malamig na tubig ang sponge
    – me energy drink (pocari, powerade, gatorade)
    – me ilaw (illuminated) ang buendia flyover
    – me ilaw along merritt rd (kung dadaan)
    – sangkaterbang medic at ambulansya
    – madaming race marshals at traffic enforcers
    – photovendo at photo wall with standby photographers
    – at me FINISHER’S MEDAL

  22. I’m a newbie runner. The Unilab run on March 6 will only be my 7th run….

In every discussion or sa kahit anong bagay na pinag uusapan eh di naman talaga nawawalan ng negative comments ah…..kahit saan ka pa pumunta…you cannot shut those people from what they want to say…..

  23. Are Runrio and Eventking still the organizers of this race? The registration fees are quite expensive. Also, information of the race features is also incomplete as of this time.

  28. sana naka-register ang iba sa inquirer bec. the singlet is really nice and cool. Medyo cheap lang, i paid 600 for 10k not bad na rin. Mega mahal sa globe, i just hope they will give finishers shirt to everybody, last year magkano lang ang neutrogena run but i was suprise to get a finishers & singlet after the race when they told us na walang singlet. Tapos ang ganda pa ng freebies nila, it was specifically packaged for the event, not plastic bag.

  29. I hope na sa mahal ng mga running reg fee ngaun may mabuong bagong group that will support and initiate LOW-COST RUNNING!!! Running should be and must be free! The only reason that we pay is because we help you Organizers of the run to raise fund for whatever cause you’re into. Sana this time runners should think not only twice but hundred of times before joining certain events.

  31. I can afford the reg fee for 21k, (of course lahat naman tayo di ba?)) but I think it’s really too much or stupid, just for a race within BGC? Some areas are under construction kaya iniba nila ang race route ng Unilab, ngayon yung 21k ng Unilab paikot-ikot lang within the small area of the Fort na parang maze.

  32. @tekla: “…its really too much or S****d”, is too much to say. If you find this illogical, how much more is it for ALL of us who register and run? Isn’t it a wonder that we pay to run & tire ourselves out? I think, let’s just be selective in where we run, be more sensible in “supporting” certain advocacy. If we have the money “sometimes” to afford a race, no one will stop us.

I might have the better fortune to run BGC (7 of 7 so far) as I train someplace else. But even so its almost the same route everytime, and I know no one, I enjoy the kinship of fellow runners around on race day. Just seeing the crowd is a high in itself.

No calling out please. Just healthy discussion.

  33. @Jerome AM Tan, why are you bothered if I say so? It is my expression and my prerogative to express my thoughts and opinion. I don’t think I did call out anyone here. My message pertained to the thought of having such an expensive registration fee, though most of us can really afford it, still it is too much, stupid or crazy in my opinion, for a race in BGC. Marami-rami na rin tayong tinakbong race sa BGC and we all know that this is the most expensive one, not fair, in other words. I’m running 21k for Unilab on the 6th and I only paid P750, compared to Globe’s 21k na nasa P1,050 for the same route hindi ba nakakaloko?

  34. I believe cricticism is vital to anyone’s development as a person/organization, as long as it is constructive, healthy and with purpose.

first time kong sasalihan ang event na ito and looking on the commentaries, i believe this is gonna be a good one. I hope the organizers will take note of the comments as these will help them to develop their AFI’s (areas for improvement) and make this event even more worthwhile (considering its registration fee)

This will be my 3rd 21k run in preparation for my full marathon in QCIM.Later nasa greenbelt 3 na ako para mag register :P Ok lang magbigay ng opinion, as long as it is constructive. Good luck to all runners and livestrong :P

  36. Other Option run on this date will be the 22nd Annual Yakult 10-miler run @ CCP Complex in Manila. Registration starts today at Mizuno outlets at Trinoma Mall, SM Megamall and BHS Taguig City up to Mar. 21, 2011 with a registration fee of only PHP300.00 inclusive of singlet, Yakult t-shirt for all the finishers, certificate of completion and Yakult health drink. There will also be 5km and 3km fun run.

sana ndi katulad ng last year un mangyari ngyon march 27..

    hoping…

    =)

Sorry Globe, I have turn you down this time. Better luck next time.

Saka in my year of running, wala pa akong nabalitaan na nag riot sa starting and finish line which need these guys o kaya mga lasing na tumatakbo ng event maski 3k lang.

  40. A medal is a medal. A medal is not a certificate. The value of a medal is lost if given to all 21k finishers.
What’s the difference of a 21k runner with a PR of 1hr30mins to a runner who finishes the race at 4hrs? And both will be rewarded with a medal?!
Just make limit or cut-off time para may challenge sa lahat ng runners.
Say for instance, sa 21k less than 2hrs, sa 10k less than 1hr, etc.
Unilab (RunRio) is well-organized, no question about it.
But i still consider Milo as d best marathon organizer.
Why? benefits of the race, rules & regulations, water station, proper uniform or singlet during the marathon, race analysis, time limit to achieve a medal, national event, etc.

    Make extra room for improvement.
    God bless.

  41. @japs: Hello, well i agree with you although there’s no chance for me in hell to get a medal if its gonna be given to the first 500 21k finisher. It should serve as a challenge and motivation for runners to train hard and get better in order to have a medal. If its gonna be given to everybody in all categories, it gives the impression of not being special. Just like your example, everybody can run and finish a race but not everyone can finish it in 2hrs or 1 1/2 hr. or even run and finish a half marathon for that matter.

  44. to all:
as for me, ndi lng ako takbo ng takbo para sa kalusugan ko…
sumasali ako sa event dahil gusto ko makatulong, namimili rin ako ng mga sasalihan ko, if it is run for cause or not.. comment ko lang sa Globe sana next time my xtra small kayo…

  45. I agree!we are filipinos! majority of us maliliit…even branded clothes or isali na natin shoe sizes…maliit talaga pag asian sizes!
