Suggestion & Tips for buying a quality running watch?

Just my input...I usually do the Cost vs. features question
    - FEATURES...What features are you looking for? Chronometer, pace meter, distance traveled, heart-rate monitor, etc.
    - COST...how much is it worth?

--> If the features that I am looking for are in a watch (durability, battery life, and the like can be factored in this, but to make it simple I just stick with features.) is the cost of the watch worth the features it would give me?

Try Soleus watches, though it has no distance traveled and GPS feature, the basic needs for running like the chrono meter and other models with heart rate monitor, and run history were already provided, you can check out Soleus Philippines FB webpage to learn more. Price ranges from 3T to 5T depending on the model and features.

If you have unlimited budget, you can try having Garmin watches, there are different models to choose from depending on what features you really need.

I uses Soleus 262 for my short runs and Garmin FR60 for my long runs for me to be able to view my distance travelled and my heart rate.

I suggest you list what are the must haves in the watch. There are lots of brands to chose from like Garmin, Timex, Soleus, Suunto, etc.

I've gone through this phase already (researched in the internet, read reviews, asked friends their experience on their watch, etc). I needed a watch with a heart rate monitor, one that can log the distance and pace, and keep history of my runs. I decided to buy Garmin Forerunner 305. I'm lucky that I was able to get the watch from the US because it's way to cheap to get it from there. They're selling it in ROX for Php21k, I got it from Amazon.com at USD128.50.

Tell us what you're needs are so that we can somehow give our suggestions ;)

Thanks for the inputs, but right now I'm just a new in the sport of running. Well maybe all I need is to check my distance, time & pace. I am planning to by Nike + sportband do you have any idea if this is worth buying? LOL! thanks guys!

@openbox: like lrangels stated: It depends on your needs.... if all of the features you've been looking for were in that watch, then go for it :)..... also remember to check the after sales support..... happy running!

bingski, how much mo nabili ung garmin sa amazon, including the shipment?

anyone here who owns, garmin 110?
im torn between the 405 or 110. still undecided kasi about buying garmin 110 kasi upon research, average pace lang ata ung dinidisplay and not the actual pace. while im not sure if i can maximize the features of 405 although it would be a good investment.. still deciding..

naging dilemma ko din to dati. then, i read blogs and found out that 405 is quite an overkill for pure-runners(non-triathletes/duathletes) at madami sya mga reklamo like the bezel touch is not too responsive depending on weather conditions, etc...

so i set my eyes on FR110. However, based on its reviews, medyo madami cya limitations(average pace issue). Buti naglabas sila ng FR210 after some time:)

Looks and feel is the same with FR110, minus the previous limitation. Just compare them at the Garmin web site.

@openbox: if you're like me na distance, time and pace lang kelangan, then i would recommend FR210. I just got mine at amazon for $180(minus HRM) this month and am satisfied with its performance :)

If you are particular about the accuracy of distances, I say go for a Garmin. Based on several comparisons between GPS-watches, Garmin provides the greatest accuracy, since the brand has been an established authority in GPS devices (automotive, sports, etc...)

share ko lng po, if ever bibili ng gadget galing sa ibang lugar, mas ok if may friend/relative or kilala na magdadala ng gadget papasok ng pinas kesa sa shipment like USPS, UPS or EMS. base sa experience ng bro ko, any gadget ay dadaan sa customs for inspection plus may tax sila na ipapatong. madedelay pa ang shipment if dadaan ng customs.

about nman sa tax, may 2k php na binayaran ang bro ko, which is di pa kasali sa shipping fee na nakalagay amazon, ebay and the like..

im not sure if applicable to sa lahat. just wanted to share. :)

I got my FR305 for USD128.50 lang.. still on sale in Amazon.

Amazon doesn't ship electronics outside the US. You can use JohnnyAir service if you plan to have it shipped in Manila. You can give them a call or visit their website for details. From what I know you'll just pick up the item in one of their stores. But I don't have personal experience about their service. You can do a research, I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback.

i also inquired about FR305 sa SULIT.COM.PH. and E-BAY. pre-order yun isa from mandaluyong. while yun 3 from Quezon City. di kaya mga REFURBISHED/DEFECTIVE items ito?

Guys, any feedback regarding these sellers would be appreciated. Thanks

haven't tried... pero if you're refering to the direct selling guy na sa pampangga's best ang pickup, mukhang tunay...i checked the feedbacks.
although mas mahal cya than buying online.

ang ginawa ko ay nagpadeliver thru amazon sa isan US address then, pina johnny mail... all in all less than 9k nagastos
ang FR210 kay direct selling guy ay nasa 13k pa ata :s pero if you have the money, y not? ;)

planning to buy a watch with lap memory so that I can use it during tempo and interval runs. hirap kasi na maglalabas ka pa ng phone para pumindot ng LAP (no GPS for my phone for distance tracking). would a SOLEUS be better than a TIMEX?

I agree. I started planning on this "investment" as soon as I started planning my first 21k ;) although 1st time ko pa lang cya gamitn sa actual race on Yamaha run :)

So lets hope for a better weather, shall we? ;)

they say never try something new on race day. How bad can it get? Wrist burn? Hahaha.

I'm also looking into getting a watch i can use to time my runs. I think it would help in improving my PR.

hehe, dont worry, nagamit ko na cya on a 10 mile practice run and no problem ;)
and bwfore that, i was using bench sports watch for my previous half marys and there seems to be no problem too :)

...well except iba na kulay ng skin under the strap dahil nangitim na ko sa araw haha!

point ko is i think mga sports watch makers have already considered these factors lalona kung specially made cya for training/similar activities :)
