even si Coach Rio, he advises newbie runners to start and train one distance at
    a time. very advisable is the 3K - 5K - 10K - 15K - 21K and so forth, level up
to avoid risky injuries most especially. i have a friend who overtrained and is
injured right now, cant run for a few months.

but if you've already signed up for the 16.8K distance, coming from 5K, wishing
you lotsa luck and injury free training days. always remember, dont push yourself
too much and to train smart! hindi naman tau mauubusan ng race events eh, we have
to listen to our body on how much it can only produce...

    always run safe,

share ko lang, 1st time ko mag level up to 10K halos isumpa ko na nag-level up pa ako.. haha... when i reached 5Km marker gusto ko na tumigil tumakbo...

while i even prepared for that 1st time 10K Run Event. naka 5x ako 10k simulation run prior to that. but then, iba pa rin ang pressure ng actual race event compared sa training run lang.

even kami nila ms_mars, pissedoffchick, etc... we seriously considered those things bago kami nag level up. while ms_mars may tears of joy pa when she finished her 1st ever 10k.. hehe

may ai also add, while you are training for this event be sure to GRADUALLY do it. wag biglaan 16K agad sa simulation training run mo. unti-untiin mo. say halimbawa6 this week then 7 next week then 8, 9, 10, etc... give yourself time to adjust..and important one week prior to your 16.k rest... dapat mag-taper ka... go ask more questions kung may hindi malinaw sa iyo. we're just concerned for you.

sana train well and run safe.

    good luck!

@edrick.. wow.. feel your sacrifices for that 10k run ha..hirap talaga! ako first time run ko is nung MBC run 1week prep lang ako, dapat kasi ang first run ko ay rexona. katuwaan lang ng mga officemate ko, sabi nila sali tayo.. ayun naparegister ng wala sa oras. on the event day sabi ko i wish i could cross vitocruz before i stop running.. awa ng dios lampas ng quirino ave saka ako naglakad.. then run-walk-run na ang ginawa ko nahiya kasi ako sa sarili ko kasi nilalampas lampasan lang ako ng mga oldies..

all sundays of september meron akong event. tatlong 5k at isang 3k.. starting november level up na ako to 10k, may prep run ako for 10k sa st.peter life run..

gradually ang pag level up mahirap pag bigla...

I believe you can do it. Coming from someone who's first race (after a very very very long layoff from running) is a 10-miler (16k), it is very doable. That was last year. Just enjoy it, think of finishing the race and set a new personal standard (speed will handle itself in the future), and you will realize that 10-miles is not as intimidating as everyone think.

    - agree ako sa hiya sa sarili kasinga nalalagpasan ng oldies at girls...pero yun nga, di mo naman sila kakumpetensya--but sarili mo....

    @Bratty (bratinElla)

    - di naman tatakbo ang finish line habang tumatakbo ka... enjoy mo lang ang company ng ibang runners during the race. smile kahit masakit ang binti, paa, katawan. wave pag malapit na sa finish line kasi madami pictures (malay mo makuhanan ka), wave pa rin pag nakalagpas na finish line para feeling mo winner na winner.

Don't worry about PR yet. This will be your PR anyway. No pressure (unless you are aiming for a podium finish). Run-walk-run as you want. What is important is to finish the race you have started.

@chrisL.. tama yung sinabi mo forget the PR.. later on mo yan marealize na dapat sa susunod malampasan or kung hindi man dapat dikit ang time sa una..

@pyxcel.. hehehe..kaso minsan iisipin mo din kasi yung health mo lalo na yung ibang organizer may waiver dba?! kaya wag rin dapat ikumpromiso ang kalusugan.. pag di kaya, stay on the right side at mag kalakad wag ka sa left side kasi dun yung mga natakbo..

@ms_mars... 30mins ago a friend of mine called me.. open pa rin daw ang registration sa KOTR.. sa adidas shangrila siya napadaan..

wow, first mo? don't worry, i'm sure you'd do well..you've been following the tips in the thread about running a 21k naman, right? don't worry about (setting) your PR just yet, basta iwas-injury lang tayo..isa pa, you got the PF peeps there..i'm sure there would be a lot of us you can pace with if you choose to.. :)

yes sir. i do read and follow some of the tips in the 21K thread.
very helpful! for my training naman, i used the 9-week plan from runner's world
although i missed 2 weeks of it because of injury.
and that is what making me nervous.

dedma nga muna ako sa PR. my only goal is to cross the finish line in one piece.
hehe. wish ko lang kaya kong maki-pace sa inyo. i'm sure you guys are aiming
to break your PRs. kita-kits na lang before or after the race. good luck sa ating lahat! =D thanks sir Dot!
