After an online video interview by CNN with Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo mentioning about an Ironman in Cebu in 2018, the local triathlon community got very excited about the possibility of a Full Ironman being hosted in the country.

However, in a recent news article released by SunStar Cebu, Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) says that it’s not yet in their calendar of events.
Princess Galura the general manager of SEI mentioned that Secretary Wanda Teo might have just forgotten to mention the “70.3” in Ironman, which makes it a half-ironman distance that has been hosted in Cebu for 5 years now, 6th this coming August 2017.
The news also indicates that a Full Ironman is still under discussion, but for now there is still no finality on where or when the race will happen in the Philippines. “We will make an announcement if meron.” said Ms. Galura.
