  1. regarding sa runner na nag colapse.. Nawalan daw po ng malay ang guy and natumba tumama ang ulo sa gutter or semento kaya puro dugo ang ulo niya. then good thing the medic assigned within the area is a doctor they tried to revive the runner kasi nawala daw ang vital signs. until na na revive nila ang vitals but super mahina ang pulse rate niya. then that is the time na dinala na nila sa hospital. Doon po sa friend ng runner na ito, kindly update us what happend to him. Will also asked my fiance to post here the situation, by the way he is one of those who responded to the guy.

    • Hi, I’m the guy who collapsed during the KOTR more than a year ago. I know it seems so sudden na bigla akong nagreply (I didn’t look for info in the longest time), but I never really knew the people who came to my aid and didn’t get a chance to thank them. Hope makarating ito sa kanila.

  2. Thanks to those leaving thoughtful comments above. Some of the well-articulated comments above made me reflect on why I run to begin with and how I will approach future events so I enjoy them instead of being frustrated.

I participate in these events for a few simple reasons:
    – I can enjoy the sport I love – running, with someone I love, my wife.
    – A great opportunity to socialize with others that share this passion for running
    – I can satisfy my competitive nature …. But the key competition is me. Meeting or exceeding goals I have set for myself.
    – Great exercise and a way to keep healthy

Things important to meet the above:
    – Be respectful of our time. We all have limited free time. Start on time
    – Safety. The route must be safe, medics available, not over-crowded, controlled traffic. An interesting or scenic route would be nice of course.
    – Hydration. A benefit of an event is not having to carry your own fluids.
    – a convenient place to watch fellow runners complete their race and a place to meet them to socialize (and quiet enough to socialize)
    – accurate and prompt race results. To give credit where credit is due, Proactive did pretty well on this vs. other local organizers.

Things that just don’t matter to me anymore
    – finishers shirts. Most of us have too many already. It was important on my first few runs, but not anymore.
    – I certainly don’t need more loot bag items that I seldom use.
    – loud, boring awards ceremonies

    So, my new plan:
    – register, show up, run
    – congratulate and talk to friends and fellow runners
    – ignore loot bags and any prizes for placing – not worth the frustration to me.
    – go for a great recovery breakfast.
    – go home.

Had I followed this plan at KOTR, I would have said it was a good event and I would have enjoyed the morning. It is only poor execution of things I really do not even care about that ruined the event for me.

Thanks again to those that gave comments that helped me recalibrate my thinking on this. Looking forward to the next event!

  3. @GenRo:
bawal n maging blogger baka ma-libel case tayo. im just criticizing the facts.

    @Dano
Well said, well said. Im not frustrated with the organizers. they did their best i hope. see you next run everyone.

  4. I don’t think the whole event is a failure. True there are many points that they can still improve on but there are also things that they did very well in.

There was enough hydration and bananas, sobrang dami nang photobooth, the activity area is full of exhibitors na nagbibigay nang freebies. Freebies meaning you did not pay for it, so automatically kung meron silang activity you have to join. Parang nakakalungkot lang that some people don’t have any patience or are ungrateful sa sponsors who made the event happen. Nakakatawa yung nagco-comment na “getting what we paid for”.

You paid for the singlet, race kit, security, insurance (kung meron), portalets, use of the road, program, medal, finisher’s shirt (again kung meron), bananas, water station, medic.

They should have followed the gunstart kasi this is a race, hindi naman concert na pwedeng chikahan lang with celebrities sa stage.

I think pinag-aralan ko to sa Health Class nung highschool.

I registered 17.00 in my Garmin.Yung extra 200meters ay bonus na. :D

Just my observations. I hope the next one will be bigger and better. Thank you Proactive for a festive KOTR 2012!

  5. TO ALL RUNNERS/READERS

  6. Runners,

We have medic stations and ambulances on all stations, pero with thousands of runners I hope the running community would understand that the event would be safer if we as a runner personally learn to asses our own limitations.

As for the fellow runner who helped our runner na nag-collapse and the mobile police who took initiative and drove the patient to Makati Med- Maraming salamat. Again, I was impressed with how the runners worked together showed concern.

Our team have visited our runner; but I think it would be best if we can just offer our fervent prayers for a quick recovery.

Race result: We apologize to our elite athletes for the long wait ng event during event day; as for the rest your race result and photos can me seen at http://www.proactive.ph

Again, Salamat Po. Let us remember we join races because we enjoy running period. Hopefully along the way we meet new friends by being a friend to them FIRST.

Let us show the world that Filipinos are kind, respectulful, orderly and hospitable through the running community.

If the running community can be used as an assesment of how we are doing as a nation- I think I can safety, we are far from where the rest of the developed world are at, but we are quickly catching up.

Again, Its a joy serving you all.

    To God be the Glory!

    -Jay Em

  7. Something’s wrong with some of your ranking info. You cannot have a ranking out of all runners (4th item under “Did You Know?” in the results page) because that would mean you ranked all finish times regardless of distance ran. This will result to runners in the 16.8K being ranked lower due to their longer FTs.

  8. @reina daza – Mam Reina, inaayos na po with timing yung para po kay Sir Neil Daza, noted po mam, and will have it corrected mam asap
