Held in partnership with the Fort Bonifacio Global City, R.A.C.E.: Run And Climb for the Environment seeks to cultivate awareness on and reverse the effects of global warming through energy conservation. The vertical marathon encourages Filipinos to adopt an energy-efficient lifestyle, such as making use of stairs whenever possible. Proceeds of the marathon will be donated to Gawad Kalinga, in support of their environmental arm, Green Kalinga and WWF.

It starts with a road run followed by ramp running (on a 30- to 35-degree incline) then stair climbing and running down the stairs to be concluded with another road running. This combination of different ways of running from other kinds of stair climbing or vertical runs (viz., run up, run up and down, running uphill before a run up, road run before run up alone or with run down) becoming popular in different parts of the world.

  1. What is the distance of each of the road runs? How long is the ramp? Hehe kung tig-1K lang naman yung runs baka kayanin natin ito. I suppose the 50floors is the total (25up, 25down)? How many steps ba per floor? (daming tanong mahirap na baka mag pass out din ako hehe)

  2. @pinoyfitness Thanks for the update – very helpful. Pwede kayang silipin yung e-Services Building or maybe pictures can be posted? Many thanks!

  3. Hi @Louise and @John! The Vertical Marathon is for everybody :) …And is actually easier than most people think. Non-athletes from the Discovery team did a mock run, and they got to finish all 25 floors (up & down). You can do it too ;)

Go register with your friends, and get a chance to win a Chevrolet Cruze and other cool prizes from our sponsors.

  4. @ZipZapZep We will soon have registration forms available in Skechers outlets (Trinoma, Market! Market!, etc.). Will also update you with a list of other places where you can register :)

Why not try registering on the website again? Other registrations have been completed successfully. Maybe we just encountered connection errors ;)

  5. @discoveryphils_run Hi, thanks for the link. Just a few more questions please. I noticed that the stairwell is quite narrow (I suppose this is the fire exit) how many runners can fit side by side at the same time (although the rules are quite clear about overtaking – but how many participants are expected)? And how will the ramp look like? I am guessing that a wooden board will be placed on top of the steps from the ground to the 9th floor? Not slippery I hope?
I’m curious about this run and already registered online :) Goodluck to me coz I’m also running on the 28th :P

  6. @RunsNRoses Actually the distance is roughly 3.2K With regards to the ramp, its the ramp going to the parking levels.

Please call Discovery Channel office at 7062845 local 132 if you have inquiries.

  7. “Note: Runners opting for the century should have personal best in the 10K of sub-40:00 for the men and sub-50:00 for the women”

    – this is tough! is there a cut-off time? hope not ^_^

  8. @discoveryphils_run Thanks for the update. Will register by Wednesday – Chris Sports, do I need to bring the Waiver (Medical Release Form)?

  9. @discoveryphils_run Thanks for that piece of information re: ramp going to that parking levels (na connect ko na with the video clip) and the 3.2K distance. If it’s ok, I’ll just post the questions here so other interested runners will also be informed. Thanks!
To echo NoNameFace’s question, do all finishers get a medal?

  10. Vertical Marathon is on 27th Nov and Run BGC is on 28th Nov, galit ba kayo sa aming mga runner? not enough time to recover for the next event, anyway sige sali ako galit-galit na muna tayo. Bahala na si Alax-an sa akin, pag hindi nakaya, absent ako sa office ng monday for sure.

  11. @mc Good point! We’ll see. Got my race kit already and read the guidelines. Medyo matindi ha hehe, very challenging. How many participants kaya? If I may also add, singlet is nice din.
